Rohde graduated with MA in history and economics in Freiburg in 1985. Before joining the Foreign Service in 1988 he received a scholarship to undertake Postgraduate Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges 1986/87. Since then he served in numerous postings in Germany and abroad. Prior to his current appointment as German Ambassador to Kosovo in July 2020 his served as Consul General in Bangalore/ India from 2013 to 2016 followed by the appointment as German Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives in Colombo from 2016-2020
